Disaster Services
The Loess Hills Chapter of the American Red Cross, helps many people in time of need. Help ranges from victims of disasters such as fire, flood, and tornadoes; to victims that we encounter on National Disasters such as Hurricanes like Katrina. The Red Cross is about helping those in extreme need in times of disasters or emergencies.
Not all clients we serve are victims of disaster. One of the special areas that the Red Cross serves are members of the military. The Red Cross AFES program offers to the families of active military a means to stay in touch. The Red Cross works with Offuit AFB to allow families to record a 2 minute message to email to a loved one stationed far away. Once they receive the message via e-mail, it can be play back as many times as they want as long as they save the link. Our AFES program is an excellent way to stay in touch when you cannot reach out and touch them yourself.
We also take care of clients that have lost their homes due to fires. We offer assistance to both adults and childrem. We go to the scene to be with them during their time of need. We offer assistance for food, clothing and shelter. We provide comfort kits with simple hygene products, and clean up kits to help get their home back in order. With the help of local business we are able to offer stuffed animals to children to give them comfort as well.
Once we have made sure that the clients are taken care of, the Disaster Action Team will then offer assistane to fire and EMT's who respond to the call by offering them refreshments during long incidents.
If you are interested in becoming a Disaster volunteer for the Loess Hills Chapter or if you have any questions please contact Michell Bose at 712-322-4017 or email. You can also volunteer for other opportunities, that the Red Cross has available, by filling out an application. With your help we will make a difference.
